Account for the gap before check-in
An early train and later room access can leave several free hours. Those hours become useful sightseeing time only after the bags are sorted. Ask the accommodation explicitly whether it can keep luggage before check-in and when someone will be available. Mentioning a reception desk does not automatically answer that question.
Clarify the size and number of pieces too. One small backpack is different from several suitcases or a folded pushchair. If storage is confirmed, record the access arrangements and agreed collection time. That makes the arrangement easier to understand even if another staff member is present when you arrive.
Check station facilities directly
For Chemnitz Hbf, the official station page is the starting point for facilities and service information. Consult the current details if considering storage there. Availability, suitable size, access and permitted duration are separate questions. An old review or a photograph of the station hall cannot reliably settle them.
Keep an alternative in mind if the preferred arrangement is unavailable. That might mean starting the walk later or going directly to the accommodation. Do not treat a museum as a luggage depot. Cloakrooms and lockers serve that venue’s own visitor arrangements, and large cases may not be accepted.
Separate what you need for the day
Pack documents, medicines, valuables and things needed during the next few hours in a separate bag. This avoids reorganising the whole suitcase at the point of storage or collection. Read the provider’s conditions and keep with you any items that should not be left there.
When travelling in a group, one person can save the confirmation and exact location while everyone keeps their own essentials. Do not rely only on a description such as “beside the entrance”. An address or clearly identifiable area prevents a search when you return later.
Include collection in the departure plan
After check-out, the same problem appears in reverse. Establish how late storage is possible and how long the journey from there to the station will take. The final attraction should not leave you across the city when you still need to collect bags before a train.
A confirmed arrangement can make the day easier. Without confirmation, a simpler itinerary is usually a sounder choice than hoping that an available place will appear somewhere along the way. The useful outcome is a visit you can enjoy without carrying more than the next few hours require.
